Complacency causes many problems, but the biggest is that it leads to your mind not being on task.  This article explores how the mind can wander when undertaking tasks that have been encountered hundreds of times before: it only takes a few seconds of closing your eyes behind the wheel of a car or thinking about something else for a dangerous accident to happen.

When complacency sets in, the way is open for unexpected actions that can cause injury. Those unexpected sources of danger could be an individual’s own actions, other people’s actions or equipment malfunctions. Any of these unexpected actions can cause injury in the presence of complacency, an outcome that could otherwise have been prevented.
